Waqrapukara, located south of Cusco, sits at an altitude of 4,300 meters above sea level and is an astro-religious center from the Inca period. The vast landscape and breathtaking scenery that surround it make this place a magical and beautiful day trip from Cusco.
Here we will learn of the Incas devotion to Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the stars: Tayta Inti, Mama Killa, Illapa, Kuychi, Mama Qocha among others. Their respect for the environment make this site a place of great admiration.

Itinerary
Heading south of Cusco, Waqrapukara is a 3-hour trip until we reach the town of Santa Lucia, the starting point of the walk. We begin the ascent, for about 3 hours before reaching Waqrapukara (from Quechua waqra ‘horn’, pukara ‘fortress’, ‘horn-shaped fortress’).
This impressive site is located in the district of Acos, province of Acomayo, and department of Cusco. It is located near the Apurímac River at 4,300 m.a.s.l and built by the Canchis, and later conquered by the Incas. It was declared in July 2017 as a Cultural Heritage of the Nation by the Ministry of Culture.
The building was believed to be an Inca sanctuary. The building is located on platforms, large blocks and includes a mysterious stone forest.
